Interstate 10 from east of Halsema Road to Lane Avenue

Project Description

A Florida Department of Transportation project to widen and improve 8.2 miles of I-10 from Lane Avenue to east of Halsema Road began in January 2009. The $58 million construction project involves widening I-10 from four to six lanes from I-295 to east of Halsema Road. The section of I-10 from Lane Avenue to I-295 will be milled and resurfaced with paved 10-foot shoulders added on each side of the interstate to accommodate emergency vehicles.

The bridge on Chaffee Road over I-10 will be replaced with traffic in both directions maintained on the overpass during construction. Ramps at the I-10 and Chaffee Road interchange will be rebuilt and improved. The overpass on Chaffee Road over I-10 will be raised by about two feet to a height of 16 feet, 11 inches.

The project contract specifies 1,120 days to complete the work and allows extra time for weather delays and unforeseen conditions in the field. The current projected completion time is the spring of 2012.

Lane closings and ramp closing on I-10 are allowed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., seven days a week. Detours will occur periodically on I-10, particularly when the overpass on Chaffee Road is being demolished and rebuilt. Detours will be allowed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., seven days a week.

Hubbard Construction Co. of Winter Park is the contractor on the job. The Jacksonville office of Keith and Schnars, P.A. is managing the project for the Florida Department of Transportation.
